Queen Alia Airport - Royal Lounge

The Royal Lounge is a private lounge at the newly developed Queen Alia International Airport. ID Firm designed the long space with floor to ceiling glass. The main design concept was to create sliding metal screens carved with poetry about the city of Amman, by Haider Mahmoud. The purpose of the calligraphic screens is to have passersby read it, as well as to provide shade. Parallel to the glass wall, there is a solid wall that displayed a modernized Bani Hamida pattern, a pattern typically used in old Jordanian carpets. The overall feel of the lounge gave people a look into Jordanian culture by combining modern and cultural touches.
